With a mob on a pb held by the player, using the lead on any type of fence (or wall[ BE only ]) attaches the lead to information technology with a visible knot, tying the mob to it. To adhere it to a wall on Boulder Edition, the player must hold a lead in the main hand.[i] Multiple leads may be fastened to one fence post. A mob tied to a contend tends to stay within 5 blocks of the fence postal service.
A atomic number 82 is broken by pressing the use detail control on the mob again, hitting the knot, or removing the attached fence mail service. Leads likewise interruption when hit by projectiles. Whenever a atomic number 82 is removed or broken, information technology drops every bit an detail at the location of the mob. Still, information technology does non driblet when unleashed in Creative mode.[ Java Edition only ] [two] A lead does not break if the attached creature dies.
A atomic number 82 can stretch a maximum of 10 blocks before breaking.
When the thespian or the knot is more than 7 blocks above the ground, the mob being leashed becomes suspended. In Java Edition, a suspended mob builds up fall damage as it dangles upwardly and down in the air. All autumn harm is received at one time when the mob lands (with the exception of mobs that are immune to autumn damage, or if the landing block resets fall distance).[3]
Well-nigh mobs that can be leashed tin can still be leashed even if attacking the player leashing them, and any attached leads do not break.
Wolves cannot be leashed after becoming angry. Despite this, if they become angry while already leashed, the lead does not break, but it cannot be reattached when broken through other methods while the wolf is notwithstanding aroused.
A lead attached to a hoglin breaks if it becomes a zoglin.
A lead does not preclude mobs from despawning if they commonly would despawn.
If the player walks into and back out of a nether portal while holding a lead connected to a mob, the pb remains attached to the mob. Yet, if a mob attached to a lead walks into a nether portal, the pb breaks and drops as an item in the other dimension.
A lead tin be used to remove a mob from a boat without needing to break the boat, if the mob can normally be leashed.
If a clamper unloads while containing a leashed mob (either by the actor walking as well far abroad, or traveling to another dimension via a portal), the lead breaks and drops as an item, leaving the mob gratis to wander around.
